April Update

 Allo!

First - a shout out to the Thielman girls!  Thanks for the note that you appreciate the website.  It's nice to know that I'm not just talking to myself!  LOL  It's always a great motivator to post more when I know someone out there enjoys it.  :D

Let's see - what's new?

We had our Annual General Meeting last week.  Things are rolling along nicely.  I'd like to welcome Margaret Clark to our Board of Directors.  She is a great gal who has a lot to contribute and a true heart for the Minis.  She has Adopted from us in the past and is the proud owner of Glee and Joc (Moses).  Glee was our very first rescue and Joc came to us last year.  They are in training to take the province by storm!

Also, a big thanks to Avril for her past year on the Board and best wishes to her on her expanding family and new adventures!  Our other Board members are continuing on with us.  Masako Evans (director), Heather Ward (vice-president) and Janis Sawatzky (secretary/treasurer).  It's great to have the support of these terrific gals!  I definitely could not do this alone!

Since I'm on the topic of humans, I'd also like to thank our intern Meghan.  She is doing a three week practicum with us and it has been great to have her around!  Thanks for all of your hard work Meghan!

So, on to the horses!  I'll just run through the list...

Robin Hood.  He is doing well still.  He's improving slowly but surely and I think he'll be ready to go up for Adoption pretty quick.  We took Bobbysox to the same foster home last week and Robin was quite excited to see a new face.  It's nice to see him so energetic!

Bobbysox.  So yes, Mr. Sox is now in a foster home.  He needed some softer footing to help his toes grow out quicker.  He is also getting some training there and is learning to think before he acts.  Here are a couple of shots from his new adventures, he's pictured with his "foster mom", Deb.  We really appreciate the time she's putting in with Sox to help him learn to use his mind and not be so reactionary.

Thanks Deb - he's looking great!

Okay, who's next?  Hula!  She is doing great up at Heather's place.  She has her own paddock and is thriving on good food and positive attention.  She can ignore her neighbours, or hang out near them and run with them through the fence if she chooses.  This will be the type of home she is going to need to be Adopted into.  That way, she'll not be forced to use her bad leg quickly.

Blizzard and Tuffi are sharing a paddock right now.  We put a sand bar at one end of their paddock and fresh crush down over more than half of the rest of it.  Tuffi seems more comfortable on the softer footing and Blizzard loves it too, of course - perfect for rolling!  We had Tuffi's fronts x-rayed and her right coffin bone is substantially rotated from previous foundering, so she's going to need a home with nice, soft footing for her.  She gets around fine, but I think she is more comfortable on something cushier.  I let Blizzard play with Triumph from time to time as Tuffi is a tad boring for him.  LOL

Triumph and Cooper live next door.  Triumph has turned into a typical four year old boy - bratty!  It's great to see him with so much energy and attitude!  Cooper was weaned from his meds yesterday and appears to be doing just fine.  I'm going to weigh him again soon and once he's packed on some pounds and remains stable, then he'll be put up for Adoption.  He's such a sweetheart.

Let's see, who's in the next paddock... oh yes, Oreo and Storm!  Yep - Storm is back!  We picked him up from his foster home on the way back from dropping Sox off.  He's lost another 14 pound, making a total of 42 gone!  Only another 20 or so to go!  Thanks go to Cara and crew for taking such great care of him for the past few weeks!  And in other news - Oreo's Adoption is pending!  We're just keeping her until after her next dental appointment and then she's heading up north to play mama to a couple of Mini yearlings!  Here's a pic of the new, improved Storm!

He's feelin' GOOD!  LOL

So, last but not least is Samwise and Rhapsody.  Samwise does NOT appreciate the return of Storm.  LOL  Old habits die hard I suppose and he does not like Storm's x-stallion bravado... probably because it mirrors his own.  He's happy as ever though and REALLY enjoys his walks out and about.

Rhapsody is getting some extra attention from Meghan and I do hope that he'll have a little breakthrough in the next while.  He is still just so scared of humans.  He is, however, very interested in us and I think he wants to chill out, but just doesn't know how.  Just look at him looking in the shot below... he is interested.  LOL  He's so cute and squishy...
