The Mane Event... etc...

Wow... October is nearly finished!  I think things are going to slow down now, we'll see!

Let's see now... plenty to talk about...

The Mane Event was wonderful.  Plenty of folks came by to chat and visit with the Minis.  We first brought Kipper to be in the booth on Friday morning.  He went home after five minutes.  That horse... if he wants to be somewhere - he figures out a way to get there.  Unfortunately, he wanted to be anywhere but in that pen!  I've never had a horse with that strong of a reaction before.  It just reinforces my opinion that Kipper was locked up in a small area and never let out.  He reared to see if he could go over.  Since he got in trouble about that, he proceeded to systematically check the bottom of each panel and the spacing of the rails to see if he could go under or through.  He was a tad frantic, so we traded him out for Mulligan instead.

Now, I don't normally like to bring Mulligan out and about.  He is a terrific ambassador, but I end up talking about Dwarfism all day long.  It is very good for educating the public, many of whom think that ALL Minis are dwarfs until they see him, but not the direction we like to take conversation in general.  He is terribly cute, so I make sure that we post signs about his special needs and the fact that he takes extra care and will not have a long life.  The last think we want is to advocate dwarfism as a desirable trait - no worries.

So, on Saturday and Sunday, we split the shifts between Mulligan and Foxtrot.  That was all who we had left to display!  Sampson and Poppy went to their new home on Saturday and Plum cannot be locked up due to his stifle issues.  I was tempted to sub in Jupiter for Mulligan... but he still hasn't forgiven me for putting him on display last year!  He did not enjoy it at all.  Mulligan and Foxtrot were very personable and were happy to be patted and "aaaaaawed" over by the general public.  Foxtrot caught many eyes as he is such a handsome fellow!  He ended up being taken home by Kay Veinotte for a two week driving evaluation!  We are very excited to see if he's got the right stuff for CDE!

Thanks so much Kay and Charlie, for your time and expertise!  www.VeinotteHorseFarm.ca

We talked to many of our "fans" and received some wonderful donations.  Thanks so much to everyone who picked up one of our "Totes for Oats"!  A special thanks to Diane D. for your kindness and Elizabeth and the Southlands gang for the halters and blankets!  Also, Jonathan Field and his posse were up to great good again!  All of the sales of Rufio's DVD, "The Catch" for the entire weekend were donated evenly between Circle F Horse Rescue and Pipsqueak Paddocks!

I also wanted to thank the many folks who made a point of letting me know that they enjoy this Blog and being able to read about the Minis and our adventures.  I will make a special effort to do at least one entry per week for you guys!  It's nice to know that it is appreciated... you made my weekend!

So, I did not get any photos at the Mane Event, because I forgot!  It was a cute display though... I'll remember next year!  :)

Meanwhile, back at the Paddocks... we only have four Minis here right now!  With Fox gone for now, we are down to Kipper and Plum as well as our permanent residents Mulligan and Jupiter.  It is rather strange to have so little.  I am defiantely not complaining though!  So, with a bit more time on my hands, I tried the harness on Kipper today!  He is finally slim enough to fit it!  We'll work a little more on his vocal commands and then hit the road with some ground-driving!  He is so excited about it.  NOT.  I think he'll enjoy it, once he gets over the whole "bit" thing.  I hope that this won't hit on his confinement issues.  We'll see.

Plum has started a series of structural allignment sessions which will hopefully cure his stifle issues.  It would be terrific to not have to put him through the operation and the joint instability that it can lead to long-term.  We have our fingers crossed that this will do the trick instead!

I hope to have new pics for ya'll very soon.  All of the Minis have really puffed out in their winter coats and are looking rather snuggly!  Talk to you again soon!
